Jihad al-Arab
Businessman
US Treasury sanctionedJihad al-Arab was designated by the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control in October 2021, in the same action that sanctioned Dany Khoury and MP Jamil Sayyed, as part of a US effort targeting corruption in Lebanon's political and business elite during the country's economic collapse.
The designation
OFAC's October 2021 action described al-Arab's sanctioning as connected to alleged corruption involving Lebanese state contracts, in a package of designations the Treasury framed as targeting individuals "profiting from pervasive corruption" at a time of acute economic crisis for ordinary Lebanese citizens.
As with the other sanctions actions covered on this site, this is a US government finding under the Global Magnitsky corruption authority, not a criminal conviction by a Lebanese or foreign court.
Current status
At the February 2025 review, al-Arab remained on OFAC's Specially Designated Nationals list. The linked OFAC record is the authoritative current source.
